Cosmetic damage from previous owner rant

I have noticed that in ads for used motorcycles all damage and shoddy repair work was done by a previous owner.  Is there no one who is selling a bike who has dropped it themselves?

Why mention who scratched a bike in the first place.  Personally I would rather buy a motorcycle from someone who had bought it from a meticulous bike owner and then dropped it a time or two than wonder what kind of mischief the careless previous, previous owner got up to.

"Dent on the gas tank from the previous owner...."

I always want to ask people like that: "So you want me to pay full price because YOU didn't cause the damage?". Seriously, I don't care who damaged / scratched / knocked over the bike.

Or my favorite, I paid 5k for it. Yea but that was before you murdered it out after dropping it and breaking all the plastic, and then got some random crap and mostly left it all still broke but painted it a fugly turd brown.
Yea ...
I tell them, when you crashed going 90 mph while pulling a wheelie and doing a burnout to get away from the cops cos you had an 8 ball of crack on ya ... did it make a sound. They go yea yea made a loud sound. Yea that's the sound of 1000's of $$$ bills flying out of your bike.

Cool.

I love all the craigslist posts.
This is legit dialogue from one of my encounters.

"Yea! It's never been laid down."
"Well what are all the scratches on the left side?"
He goes on to a long story and I'll make it brief.
Basically.... "I was taking a corner really fast and the tires slid out.."
I interupted.. "So you lo-sided it?"
"No! I stayed on the bike and saved it!"
I was internally laughing at this point.
"So you pulled a Marquez?" (I don't know if anyone knows about the crazy marquez save)
"Who?!"
I just started laughing and I left. I got a lot of humor out of that encounter.

That's awesome!
We all love a good barn-find, just without the fictional account...

(I dropped my bike once, but it was in the garage and I 'saved it' w/my leg and another other bike. It sucks when you've been drinking and go out to sit on your new/used bike to pretend your riding and get up and forget to put the kickstand back down!)

Or the infamous, a car backed into the bike when the previous owner had it, I never got around to fixing it/ I did fix it but the repair work came off. . .  :icon_eek:

"No keys, no title; bill of sale only. Ran great before battery died!" Then they may wonder why the bike sits for years.

Why do you want a maintenance history? My mechanic said it was good-2-go® :thumb:

In 05 when I was selling my 48k miler, someone asked me if it was ever down.
I said the frame and motor atleast 8 times that I know of. Tank and side covers atleast 1 time, if not more.
They looked it all over and said ... well, it doesn't look like it.
I pointed out the billet cover on the right and the scratches on the alternator, and they go, its not visible. I said, Ok fine, but that is the least of its problems. It uses a qt in 300 miles, that is a more real problem you probably have to fix.

My GS was "dropped" by a previous owner. There have been 3 so far. The muffler is dented, the tank very slightly, a few scratches etc.

I'm fine with it.

I don't BS people though. Also, I'm a grown man. I have NEVER "dropped" a bike. Broseph, dude, and bro drop bikes, not me.

I've crashed.

Not this one, knock on wood -- but I've crashed.

How insecure are we that we need a euphemism for an accident? Who among the greats dropped a bike? Did Bazza? Did Joey?

I don't get some guys lately.

lucas

True true, I dropped my bike in the garage.  Not a very noteworthy event - much different than crashing - more like I set it down on it's side kinda roughly.  I'll keep that difference in mind if I ever have to explain to someone that I crashed my motorcycle.

The Buddha

Oh yea the famous inside the garage crash where you omit the part you got drunk and made vroom vroom noises.

TBH I have seen a Quonset hut get iced over and cave in sending the shelving and wall mounted tools to the floor and crunch things under it.
The bike was hardly the worst affected, there was a jeep in this one that looked pitiful.

Cool.

Speaking of PO, have you seen someone try to sell a "Road Bike"
And TBH, its not quite as bad as a "Rode bike"

I think its a Rode bike when a redneck road it on the rode.
What if he lived in Rhode Island ? would it be an Island bike then ?
