Heres a project in 2 parts ( help requested)
My great grandfather Hans rudolf albert otto pufahl born in 1892 in black forest area of germany, as a younger man ( mid 1930s was a bridge offcer i THINK  2nd mate on the queen mary when she steamed from southhampton to ny. that aside, am looking to find a picture of him in uniform ( these pics do exist specially for cunard/white star lines. Disembarked the queen in late 30s at outbreak of ww2 ( an american citizen for a while at this point still employed by cunard) was living in westchester co NY btw home is still in family somewhere. anyhoo i digress back on topic . after leaving NY he and his wife moved to coral gables FL. ( Work history was amusing lol ended up as mayor AND a school crossing guard. anyhoo enough background for now, he mentioned in  a FL newspaper article from late 60s writing and publishing a book and i quote "i wrote a book , and to be honest i dont recall if anybody ever bought the damned thing" lol
What im needing help with is 3 things actually all of which can be answered with links. a childhood young adulthood photo, one  of him while employed with cunard/whitestar, and the title of the book. ( he didnt reference title of book in article or date of publication) reason for all of this is for a church project of mine. we are HEAVILY invested in family history/ancestry. although i do have a church provided acestry.com acct, i cannot access it from this phone. it is dying. so cursory google searches are about all i can do. ( and postwhore lol)
In closing one further question, does anybody have a  phone they can let go inexpensively?
just has to be able to do 2 things besides talk and text/web
1. has to work on Verizon network
2. be able to work as a hotspot for my tablet if needed.
am eternally greatful for any and all assistance. if anything the inexpensive retired phone lol. ebay blows
Again thank you
Aaron
P.s   win not claimed nor expected since it is a non delayed double post. lol :)

No win here i forfeit it. but some additional info about great grandfather to add. legs are numb atm so enjoying the mental clarity. found newspaper article from a deerfield beach newspaper from early 70s. article titled "ex-mayor pufahl enjoys school job" anyhoo seems he had retired from union carbide 3 times. and paul chelburg(sp?) and himself they designed and patented a tool guiding apparatus. anyhoo sorry ramble off now lol.
the shipping thing the dates were wrong. he did this to the outbreak of ww1 not 2. this would explain why info was scarce. this creates a new issue. i believe this predates the queen mary . BUT it was a british trans atlantic steamer. now have to figure out vessels name. then find pics.
And the book. i found in article the subject matter of the book. but in this case google is about useless as boobs on a bull.
"immediately after the allied victory in europe, a survey team was organised to learn what technical advances had been made in germany during the years of german-american hostilities."
" i wrote a book about it he said. "its in the office of the superintendant of documents in washington, but i dont think anybody ever bought a copy of the damn thing.I dont even have it anymore" anyhoo my friends any assistance if youve got some freetime would be greatly appreciated. also figuring out how to migrate this part of thread to its own. once i do that, ill remove this part. and then start to win lol.

WTF the title of this book is a pain. ive no idea what it is. i know the subject matter ( listed) published somwhere beyond 1946 id say. and from paper article before his death in 1986 but before this. paper article was from early 70s. got the original. got to be an aha clue somewhere. my grandfather theodore who i called giant because of nearly 7ft height. married his daughter louise. Hans` wife from the uk was named isabelle. she died 3 years before my birth. anyhoo both my grandmother and grandfather both recalled this book. but didnt care then . wished i paid more attention :( this is giving me more grey hairs than my health will lol. google wont help. and cannot access my church provided ancestry acct from this phone. taking break from book. now googling the ship.

I'd be checking navy museum/ assistance. . Either military or merchant. ..

... and oddly enough. . Foxtel has various "storage wars/auction hunters" shows...  items turn up that need naval knowledge identification. .  There has to be a list of naval historians online! ... generally genial chaps on the tv! ;)

Can't help.

My great grandad was found on a doorstep in a basket, with his sister, in a small town.  There was no note.  We have no idea where we come from.  I tried for years, and only found how badly my hometown vilified us for lack of genealogy.   The host family raised them and gave them a last name, but eventually threw them out in favor of their own.

No problems my friend no problems :) trying to figure out a solution. back in those days it was like poof, done. the doorstep adoption. the adoptive family has no idea of birth family or anything. 1 and really only solution is the DNA test. but not the usual one ( paternity /etc) but the heritage one. kinda tells you where you originated from.  really nothing more. thinking can do this and then wait. or the modern dna test, and plug into NCIC database and see if a match. ( if you have any known criminals of fairly recent time. if not = will get nowhere. it would be a logistical hell though. im thinking, the more family members you can get to do this, it MIGHT yield some info. or at least gather some information. used to be able to get int.o NCIC ( would help friend who was LEO) gather information if he was  needing help or had alot to pull. will get ahold of him if you wish. another option, is dna plus adoption records check. IF people wish to be found, anyways ill help if you desire it. let me know ;). on my end, only thing i have is a website with detailed ship info actually think is IS called shipinfo.com anyhoo [/ramble off ] only thing is i dont have the exact date when he disembarked in montreal. only clue was it was when we engaged in hostilities with imperial germany. captain asked iff he would stay onboard, he declined. did not want any animocity with crew. resigned and disembarked at montreal. then after a bit made his way to maine. after a while his english wife isabelle joined him and they were married. became an american citizen shortly thereafter. ( went from german to english to canadian to american lol) anyhoo sorry ramble again. i guess thing im looking for is british transatlantic steamers stopping in montreal i guess in 1917.
anyways if you decide you wish any help with a search of your own let me know. will do what i can :)

unsure what that is. spose i could search lol but am not searching for a while though. i was pulling info for my medical stuff, and for some reason this phone somehow opened a random yahoo instant messenger acct and started randomy turbo messaging random ppl. this phone is dying lmao. i did however find both  my great grandparents journals as well as their papers amongst other personal items in a steamer trunk in the basement. i will research the old fashioned way. and read. anyways, appreciate the help anyways my friend. have a good night Eh?

I did find something interesting, theyre either brass or copper.. im leaning toward copper,  but i found the plates hans used to announce the forthcoming marriage of his daughter ( my grandmother). but the plates were used in a press to print the announcement/invitation. these are nearly a century old. well around 75 years anyway. because she was married before ww2 in port chester NY
