Clutch adjustment query

As it's clear I've learned a lot by pulling the GS out of mothballs I've got a lot to learn still. I'm having trouble with the clutch and I can't seem to adjust it to a workable state.

Current situation: can ride bike but clutch doesn't fully engage. With lever pulled right in the revs jump as I change down gears without letting the lever out.

Can someone explain in idiot friendly language how I should be adjusting and in which direction from which end??
