Yellow/orange fluid found in float bowl. Is this something to consider?

Here's a pic of my bowls:

The left side looks clean. However when I opened the right, it leaked the yellow liquid onto the carb housing, as you can see. There's also a bit of brown residue inside the bowl itself. Is this fuel byproduct, or is it rust? Not sure what to do next. The reason I opened theses up is because performance has dropped a bit lately, with a bit of low RPM hesitation during the first 15 mins of riding, and slightly less power overall. So, I'm wondering if it might be related to dirty jets, maybe the right side one in this case?

Yep, that's old fuel residue. Clean it from the bowl with carb cleaner, and your jets / fuel enrichment circuit probably has some in them too. Clean the jets with carb cleaner (I put the jets in the float bowls and soak everything in cleaner at once). Just don't soak any rubber bits in carb cleaner..... unless you plan on replacing the rubber.

Remember: old fuel can go bad inside all the passageways in the carbs, so most likely it's not just the jets that need cleaned.

old fuel residue

Thanks! Mind answering a few more questions?

1. What do you think the underlying cause is?
2. Why would it occur in one side, but not the other?
3. I assume this is one of the causes of my low-RPM hesitation, and slightly less power overall. Am I right here?

If it was the left bowl, I'd say it is from the bike sitting on the kickstand. But being on the right side, that isn't the case. Maybe a PO had a problem with the left carb, drained both bowls, but took off the left bowl only? Tough to say.... but isn't usually significant.

But yes, it can cause running issues. Do you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner? They work pretty well. I've boiled carbs to clean them out too (don't do it in your house though).

OK, makes sense.

No ultrasonic, but I have plenty of carb cleaner, and I've heard of boiled lemon juice working wonders too

Boiled mine in citric acid. Also used powdered bowel prep (because it's stronger citric acid)

Wait, I just realized that this is the left side, I had it turned around for the pic. I took the floats off and both needle valves are clean.
