Hey all, I was a member here almost 10 years ago with my first GS500. I learned how to wrench starting with that bike and this forum. I even got to benefit from Kerry's shim set. Well, here I am now with another GS500, in the middle of fixing it up, and I am in need of some shims.

All of my shims are 2.5mm and none of them has room for me to insert the smallest feeler gauge. So I was wondering if anyone has a set of four shims, or even one shim that is 2.15mm I could borrow to get a measurement for what size I need, as I intend to use OEM shims but can't be dropping that kind of cash just to figure out what I actually need. Please PM me if you're willing to help.

In the mean time, some pics of my rebuild so far, 4 days in...

It's a 95 with about 30k miles. Got it in kind of rough shape, started by thoroughly cleaning, jetting, and repairing the carbs, putting on a new chain, and replacing the blown rear shock with a katana shock. 6k miles later, the oil leak and squishy front suspension have driven me nuts long enough.

So I've got sonic springs in the forks already, new bearings in the wheels, a snazzy new paint job, new rings on the pistons, a nice lil DIY valve job, and an athena gasket set with some Honda Bond 4 (if only I could've gotten a Suzibond...)

Feels slightly like a betrayal... But my GS will get over it.

Just a few bits and pieces...

...And lots of solvents!

Can't wait to feel the difference.

That nifty screen kept those chunks out of the worst possible places. Still works though.

Doesn't look so bad.

Looking shiny again!

And eventually, the tank and plastics!

A tad glazed here, but now they're all honed up and ready to go!

So my GS500 proves yet again to be a wonderful source of experience. It's been fun to work on. If anyone can help me out by lending some shims, I would deeply appreciate it! Stay tuned, more pics to come as progress continues.

Edit: Sorry, the IMG tag wasn't working for me with google drive.

Just ordered a smaller shim, so I'll figure it out on my own.
