I had heard that they are total dogs...

Neat look.  I'd prefer the Yamaha tw400 or whatever it's called if it wasn't so damn expensive...

The SR400?

But anyways, I would rock a TU250X every day. There is a small aftermarket support (luggage rests, etc) to make them really feasible for local commuting. And owners have reported getting near 100 mpg with some mods.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

I cant imagine they FI'ed that turd but ignored and then killed the GS.
In 2004 instead of FI'ing the thing and putting the $4 Gas years firmly in its corner (well before Ninja 300 and CBR's 250) the Fu*ktards @ suzuki put a full fairing on it. Yea fix crap that wasn't broken and what no one wanted, but makes a lot of $$$$ when it crashed (except most people never paid them that $$$ cos they just went naked)

The 89 GS 500 needed Belt drive, 16" or 15" rear tar, watercooling and FI in that order. Not fairing and BNG. Now the CBR and ninja has firmly eaten the GS'es market. The TU aint gonna be around in another 2-3 yrs, much like they replaced the very well selling SV650 with the Gheydius, only to have it get killed when it was revealed to be a steel framed, plastic laden POS.

I kind of have a soft-spot for small cc/wire wheeled bikes. Looks like it's from the 70's w/o all the carb maintenance.

Ha, you seem to be under some illusion that the FI is bullet proof.
Yes it wont have fuel sit in the bowl and dry and turn to goo. But lots of FI issues, RC51's have had a bit of a rep for that, but when it does, you'd need to buy parts 1 at a time, cos controllers, fuel pumps, injectors etc etc cant be tested independent of each other.
I'd take FI still, but not as slam dunk IMHO. FI bikes also need a 95% battery, else it wont start.
I'd happily run a GS to 30% or under and have 5+ yrs in the battery that is in my bike now, and its the second 5yr battery I have had in GS'es (and its not a sealed one)

I have a friend w/a fuel injected harley and his maintenance is a lot more to what I'm used to, coming from an automotive background. He changes mufflers and intakes w/o having to rejet/adjust a carb.
I guess it's all what you're used to. I came of age in the 80's when all the older guys were complaining they couldn't mod FI on a car. Hooking up to a laptop and remapping seems easier to me that all this carb magic!!!
