Is    there a way to install fork boots, without taking the forks off, I mean I guess I would have to cut it if that were the case. Is it easy to take the forks off?

In this link it doesn't even show him taking off the forks, maybe I'm just being lazy and trying to find a shortcut

Nope, the forks have to come off to install those boots. Support the front of the bike, take the wheel off, loosen the headlight mount, and loosen the triple clamps. It's possible to leave the fender / brace attached but yyou'll have to lower both forks at the same time. Removethe fender / brace and you can do the forks individually  (much easier if you're working by yourself).

Just make sure the bike is supported well - you'll be shaking it pretty good wrestling with the forks.

Excellent, thank you.  I bookmarked this post/URL, this forum is so handy and helpful

What if a person supported the front end, removed the front wheel, fender, and brake caliper and then put the fork boots on from the bottom end.

Would that work?

If the fork boots were large enough, yes. The set that I had on my 500 forks..... no way. The top hole on the boots was probably 38mm around - just enough to slide up and down the forks (zip ties held them tight though). I couldn't imagine trying to stretch a fork boot over the lower fork assembly.

Oh OK.  I do like the look of fork boots, where did you buy yours & do you have photos?

Big Rich

I bought them years ago.....I think I originally got them for the shocks on my Jeep Wrangler. Not sure how much help pics will be since I had GS500 forks on my GS450, but here's the thread on it:
