So I just got me a 2004 gs500. Honestly this is my first bike so this is all new. I know it needs a battery so I got that done. I went to start it and the red oil light started blinking. So I stopped right they're, what is the next best step?

Agreed, so far still searching.

It was blinking? The oil pressure light comes on when the ignition is switched to "on", and should turn off withing the engine running for a couple seconds.

I've never heard of that light blinking. .... maybe flickering from an air bubble in the oil near the sending unit (thanks Sledge).

Oil pressure light... so maybe the oil is at that low level that the oil pump can push up a bit on each rotation? Creating pulsing pressure and light? ...  or the wire is damaged!

Thanks, I had to replace the battery. Got that done then went to start it and it turned over but didn't start, that's when the light started blinking. I haven't got it to start yet but I'll check the pull and wiring.

Well I guess I should've paid more attention to the fuel position, the guy I got it from had it sitting in the "prime" position. I'm guessing it's now flooded the carbs and that's not helping it start at all.

If it flooded the carbs,  pull the spark plugs out and spin the motor over. There can be gas in the cylinders, and liquid gas doesn't compress well. And check your oil too- gas can fill up your crank case, diluting the oil.

Thanks, I got it started today. It'll run on full choke for a couple mins at the most then it'll shut off. I think the carbs need to be cleaned. Thanks fir all the info, I'm competition new to this and this site has already been a massive help.
