How long to get used to Motorcycle Boots?

I just bought a pair if Alpinestar Roam Boots from New Enough and they feel great.  On the bike it feels very different.  I was used to wearing Magnum Tech boots (basically they look like black Army boots).  The Alpinestar boots are much thicker.  I have only ridden with them once, but shifting felt really different.  I was having to concentrate on shifting and not on riding.  The angle of my foot is very forward with these boots in order to fit under the shifter.  A bit uncomfortable.  

Is this normal?  Will it just take time to get used to?

You can always adjust the shifter position with the little set screw if you need to.  Hopefully the boots will give you a better feel once you get used to shifting.  I'd recommend breaking them in properly and doing some walking in them, maybe loosen up the ankle flex some.

it took me about 10 - 20 hrs of wearing my boots to get used to it.. and another 4 or 5 hrs of riding to get used to it shifting..

I have Technic Freeway Boots.

Took me a bit of time to get used to my boots too.  I think a few days riding into the city did the trick.

I recently bought some Frank Thomas "Aquaboots", previously I always wore steel-toe workboots. I took me a short while to make the adjustment but no problem, one thing though, I don't put my foot under the shifter to lift it, I tend to shift it with the side of my foot using the slight ridge between upper and sole of whatever boot I am wearing. I guess it horses for courses, just preference like anything else.
