GS500 Carb Cables

So i had a problem with the carbs on my girlfriend gs500, they started leaking from the bowls.

I looked at replacement gaskets, but it turned out cheaper to get second hand carbs, so bought the carbs instead.

The problem i have is, the bike is a 1995 GS500 and the carbs are off a 2002 GS, i have all the cables from both, but none fit properly, has anyone ever done this swap before and does anyone know what cables im best using?

Just a bit more info. The '95 throttle cable has a different end to the '02 as the throttle cable bracket on the carbs is different, but using the '02 cable , with the outer cable at its shortest, there is no free play at all at the throttle tube, but the butterfly's close all the way to idle opening, meaning it wont pass an MOT. The choke cable for the '02 is a little shorter in general, so i think id be able to get the '95 choke cable on there and adjusted so the choke is off when the lever is all the way back to off position.

Im thinking of cutting the outer cable down on the throttle a little bit to give me that free play, but anyone know of any cables that would properly fit, or is it basically just a case of cutting it down.

On another note, im thinking of putting a K&N lunchbox filter on with a delkevik stubby exhaust, anyone know what jet sizes im best using?

Thanks
Al

Sell the carbs, and buy the proper gaskets?

Or buy a right hand control from an 02 GS, and use the carbs & cable from the same bike. You really don'twant to make the cable "fit", because it will break eventually.

And tthere's plenty of jetting info in the Wiki (link on the home page).

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Yeha, i found the jetting info not long after i posted this thread, but yeah, didnt really want to cut it, and didnt think of getting the hand controls of a newer model

Nice one for the input  :)

02 carb in 96 bike - got one here.
Refab the cable to match the carb, inner is a bit longer than the 89-00 one if I recall.
Cool.
