Clutch Assembly

So I took apart my bike to re paint the frame. I assembled everything but when I got to the clutch cover assembly on the left side (shifter side), I put the cover on, screwed in the 5 8mm bolts and hooked up my clutch lever, but it won't dis engage the clutch. It was on the center stand and I put it in gear and tried to pull the clutch in and turn the rear wheel by hand and it was turning the motor. I tried adjusting the cable screws at the handle and at the cover yet it still won't dis engage. I saw there is a pin that I believe gets pushed in towards the engine which I preside separates the friction plates as the clutch is pulled. I don't know how that's supposed to be, but I don't think I'm missing anything.

Does anyone know how I can get the clutch working again? Do I have to take apart the other side?

I do realize everything is dirty down there, I didn't want to dis assemble any of those components yet until I know I can get it back together and working properly.

Thanks everyone!

Hi mate, unfortunately I don't have the answer to your question as I have my own clutch issue, maybe similar. Wondering if you pulled the clutch pin out or not? I pulled mine out and it doesn't seem to go back in as far. How many centimetres is it meant to stick out? Cheers

I had a similar issue when I rebuilt my motor.  If you have the cable adjusted according to the service manual it should be fine.

Don't worry too much if it seems like it won't disengage.  The plates may just be stuck together after weeks/months without being used.

The first time I started up the engine the plates got un-stuck and everything was fine.

Thanks!! Started the motor and they became un stuck! Flushed and tossed in some fresh oil for good measure!

When that happened to me I wasted loads of time trying to figure it out.  I even bought a new clutch release mechanism..  I thought it was bad because one of the ball bearings was gone.

Glad to have the 100% complete mechanism now but I would have rather saved the frustration.
