Can I simply just cut off my exhaust on my gs500e? New to riding...

Glad you're ok.

I got my muffler from here and it was inexpensive and looks great

Thanks! I came back to it this morning to look at any damage and I messed up my left speedo and had to re-attach some weird spinning thing that was connected to my rpm reader(tachometer i think?). But other than that she is still running perfectly lol.

This is a great site as well I'll definitely look into it more after work!

It has been raining so I have been procrastinating getting started on it. But tomorrow morning or the day after I'm chopping the tail and throwing on a solo seat.... Well maybe a solo seat lol

Riding motos is like riding horses. eventually youll go down. it happens. at least it was minor Eh?. anyhoo a month before my ankle fiasco started, went horse riding on friends property. had a forced dismount. horse looked at me i think saying "AAAAAND the score is, horse 1 human 0. got up, dusted self off and re mounted. ( minor ankle twist) my first gs did same thing. was used to R  slow turn but not L . ( recalling MSF) did a 2----1 panic stop then back into1 and a r turn back to group. tried this L hand and she fell over like a drunken barfly. i laughed. picked itt up and kept going. ANYHOO. the exhaust, i tried open header when i did the gsxr wedge can conversion. it ran albeit poorly. had to rejet after. imho i love the gs but she doesnt sound good open pipe. but to each his or her own. do whats right for the both of you. Thanks for the advice!! Probably not gonna just chop it off anymore, I'll get a shorter aftermarket or something along those lines. As the week passes I am slowly changing my mind on how I want it to look haha  :icon_rolleyes:

Congrats on the bike and sorry you took a spill! I've been pretty lucky, put 12k on my GS with no incidents, statistically I'll probably be in for it soon.  :icon_eek:

I can't imagine what kind of unholy racket a GS would make without a can, but I'm thinking you made the wise decision. :) I've got a Yoshi pipe on my wishlist, but holding off as I'm pinching pennies for some track days and another bike.  :dunno_black:

I'm very new here and I don't want to come off as a know-it-all or a hooligan..

However with that being said. You can certainly chop off the muffler but expect the bike to run very lean without any changes to the carb jets. I'm 99% sure the intake flow has a stronger effect on the need to rejet though however.  But even with a stock intake I'd expect rejetting to be pretty much mandatory on something that suddenly has a straight pipe exhaust.

My main jets are 150's with pod filters on the intake and no restriction whatsoever in the exhaust system and the engine runs better than it ever did. I'm lucky to live somewhere heavily populated with loud Harley Davidsons but that being said the bike is still loud enough to piss off neighbors.

And sorry to hear about the spill as well.
