So lately while following me on my 1989GS500 my girlfriend noticed my running light was flickering badly. Around the same time she noticed this, I lost my high beam as well as my front brake light. Does anyone have any ideas where to start as far as diagnosing the problem is concerned? I can't find a fuse box or anything online that seems to point towards a root cause that could cause all three to go out at once. This is my daily driver  and i rely on it for commuting, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

I don't have any advice, sorry.  But I do have a question. What is a front brake light?

Lift the tank and check the harness plugs under there near the engine.... then start checking the wires running away from them. .  Service manual and multimeter will help your search! :thumb:

And by front brake light I'm thinking the front brake lever does not activate the brake light but the rear/foot lever does make it work!?

@janx101 nailed it! I kinda struggled with the semantics there and figured someone would ask what the heck I was referring to. But yes, whenever I hit the front brake, the brake light does not come on. But if I hit the rear brake, it does. Thank you janks101, I haven't checked there yet. Will report back with what I find.

Okay so far I've solved the brake light (bad switch) and low beam (bad bulb) only problem I have now is the dang rear running light! Both bulbs come on nice and bright whenever either brake is applied, then nothing when left off. Both bulbs have two filaments. So I'm assuming something is up with the wires that power the dimmer running filaments that are supposed to be on all the time. A diagram helped me diagnose the other two problems but I'm having difficulty figuring out which wires power the running filaments.

You need a workshop manual with wiring diagram! ... there's an ad on this site to buy them online and it supports the site!...

Every serious GS500 owner has a manual! ... sure its great to ask questions here but being able to reference the questions AND answers with the book live in your hands is a valuable resource!
