Two months ago I bought an 09 gs500f and I love it. It's a great starter bike but one thing has been really bugging me, the sound. I am on the search for an exhaust to make it sound less like a sewing machine and more beefy. If anyone could give me any suggestions or videos of different exhausts for this bike that would be great.

best exhaust  for me  is  stock  exhaust   why  ,  no  exhaust  leaks  ,  if you cut off  muffler  and put on  a  say  yoshimura  muffler  then you have to fill up the gap with high temp  silicone  or have it welded  ,  many people  were  complaining  about the leaks  on bike nite in Huntington beach California do to the slip on mufflers ,  no leaks =  no power loss  , works for me ........ :thumb:
Some people   say  Disneyland  is the happiest place on earth ,  I say  Playboy  Mansion ..............

I know the downfalls of getting a new exhaust, I'm close to people with welding experience so am unbothered by that.

Hi Tjkat and welcome to the forum!

Shortly after I bought my GS years ago, I was doing pretty good with $$ so I bought a full stainless system off of ebay. Brand new shiny header pipes and a flawless muffler to replace the stock rashed scratched faded rusted mess. I took the baffle out and I love how it sounds. But the price tag on that system was ridiculous and I don't think you're wanting to go that route.

All that being said, have you searched on youtube for GS exhaust videos? I've been hangin' around this forum for a few years now and I've seen a fair share of custom exhaust vids and posts about what exactly they did and if they liked the sound or not, etc.

Which, brings me to my next suggestion, don't forget to use the search on this forum. It'll show you a bunch of threads about what people have done... everything from dual exhaust to slip-ons to oem cans from other bikes to totally custom mufflers that look like just a cut off pipe.

Thank you! I have been looking on eBay for ones I liked aesthetically and price wise, then moving onto YouTube to check the sound. I didn't realize how popular these bikes were.
