'92 fuel cap doesn't fit '07 tank ...

So, I went out to put the fuel filler on my "new" tank in hopes of getting my bike back soon and discovered that the fuel filler/cap assy from the old bike doesn't work on the new tank. It appears the new tank has a smaller filler opening. I wonder if this isn't a California tank.

First thing I had to do is swap the "fake" bolts from left to right, since there's a post on the tank that requires the shorter "fake" bolt be on the right and on the '92 fuel filler it was on the left. This is probably my first indication that it wasn't going to work, and maybe I have a CA-only tank and need a special fuel filler.

Once I did that, I discovered that the fuel filler won't close due to interference in the neck/opening:



All non-CA GS500E/F gas caps are supposed to be interchangeable (along with most Bandit/Katana/V-strom/SV650/GSX-R, etc.). This must be CA-only then?

Before I order a new fuel filler to fit this tank, can anyone confirm what I need to order?
