Is my front bearing alright?

My front end started making a very faint whirring sound when I turn. I can only hear it when I'm coasting quiet, ie disengage both the clutch and throttle, then turn. Occurs on both sides and at medium/high speeds. Only change I made recently was putting in new brake pads. Could it be the bearing?

Put the bike on the center stand, and jack up under the frame to get the front wheel up enough to spin freely. Spin the wheel a bit and see if you can reproduce the sound. Maybe the brake pads are dragging a little bit?

My GS has always made a faint sound like what you're describing... but I can't say that it's *only* when I'm turning. I've never been concerned with it really.... will be watching this thread to see what it could be !!

Most likely those new brake pads touching an area the old ones didn't. They will bed-in in time. As long as there is no physical drag (the pistons did slide back easily to accommodate the thicker new pads?) disc brakes always have a slight noise anyway.

Give it a bit more time. If its the pads it will get better, if its a bearing it will get worse.
