Brothers,
Last week I unmounted the carburators and fuel tank to clean (BIG MISTAKE ).
This wasn't necessary because everything was OK.
When everything was on place I equalized the carburateurs.
Unfortunnaly the bike starts with problems after that.
Syntoms:
1º) Hard to put the engine working.
2º) When working it seems to work only in one cylinder and the noise is ummmmmmmmm.
3º) When I accelerate seems to start the other one cylinder but with explosions.
4º) Sometimes I need to use CHOKE to keep engine working.
5º) I took the spark plugs out to see their colour. Left cylinder...OK. Right cylinder...TOO BLACK.
6º) When engine is working and I took out the spark plug cap of left cylinder, engine continues running, then I put the of spark plug cap on place. But, if I took out the spark plug cap of the right cylinder, engine stops immediatly.
Can somebody help?
Thanks in advance!

Hey there motard,

I'm new here so this post might not be set up right but o well! Uhm I had the same problem on my GS when I would pull off the spark plug caps (I know not the smartest thing) what I ended up doing was checking the float heights on the carbs. That's when I noticed the side that would kill the bike was getting barely any fuel and the other side was perfect. So when I re-opened up the carbs to take a look I noticed my Float needle was stuck on the side that wasn't getting any fuel I popped that bad boy out and cleaned it and put it back in and ever since then it's been running like a dream!

I really hope this helps you I know it might not be what is wrong with your bike but doesn't hurt to look into it!

Motard, there's a problem in your description. Under #5, you say the left spark plug looks ok but the right spark plug is black (which sounds like it is running on only the left cylinder). Under #6 however, you said it runs on the right cylinder only.....

Either way, you're running on one cylinder. Most likely it is a carb problem - start with checking float height using the clear tube method. If your floats are set correctly, it's time to open up the carbs and check everything else (jets, mixture settings, etc)

Thanks brothers!

Ok.

3) If the engine is "picking up", it's the other cylinder that is firing randomly.

4) The "choke" is actually an enrichment circuit: so it's not choking the air flow, it is adding more gas.

The fact that the choke is helping the engine run means that it needs more gas..... so the cylinder that isn't firing just needs more gas. I'd be looking at a clogged pilot jet, bad float height, or clogged main.
