What do I need to do to remove the evap can from my bike?  There are a bunch of random hoses (carbs, fuel tank) that need to be removed or capped.  Does anyone have experience with this mod?  I'd like to know how much better the GS runs after taking it off.

OK the hose from the tank can go into thin air, carbs the top T fitting also can go to thin air, and the evap can stay there. Removing it is hard. When you take off the battery box and ir box it will be easy cos its bolted to the bottom of battery box.
Cool.

It catches all the Gas vapor from the carbs and Tank which has caused all of CA air pollution problems... you know...

Yeah I guess there's some charcoal filter in the evap cannister.  Which never gets cleaned or replaced.  So how worn must it be??  I'm not going to take it off any time soon, but eventually I'll pull it off if I decide to take the GS to the track.  Any extra weight has got to go.  I still wonder what kind of performance increase I'll get (?)

zero performance gain.

Explanation?

There is at least back presure from the gases going through the filter.  :dunno:

as srinath says, it just catches the vapor coming off the tank and carbs... when the bike is off, mostly.  A very small bit of air and fuel flow through it while the bike is running.   It is insignificant compared to the air coming through the air filter and the fuel coming through the fuel lines.

From Chlymer "Fuel vapor from the fuel tank is directed into a charcoal canister located under the battery, when the engine is stopped.  When the engine is started this vapor is drawn, through hoses, to the carburetors and into the engine to be burned."

In the diagram, you can see that the evaporation canister is between the vent located in the gas cap area and a special intake in the carbs.  99.99% of your fuel is going through the main fuel lines.  Only the vapor that escapes out of the top of the tank is going through the canister into your carbs.  The ONLY purpose of the cannister is to store vapors evaporating from the tank while the bike is off and direct them to the carb when the bike is started.  This takes about 1 milisecond.  It DOES keep gas vapors out of the atmosphere.  This is a good thing.  I would highly recommend keeping it on the bike.
