So got rear ended by a 23 year old who was wasted and had no insurance bike didn't take to bad of damage slip on got ripped off handle bars bent windshield shattered and crash bars protected the engine so no oil leaks. I drove the bike home last night after looking over wheels for damage and getting slip on back in place with some radiator clips she was very clappy at frist but today everything sounded normal and no weird cluncking or thuds so the engine should be good but I wanted to ask what I should check/look over spots that could compromise any safety, and slip on I have never changed before dose it matter brand or type or do all slipons work or do I have to buy ones that are specific to the gs500 I am looking at putting a stubby on it. Any advice would be awesome.

Holy crap!  Well, the good news is it seems like you weren't hurt at all.

If it was hit hard enough to
Quoteslip on got ripped off handle bars bent windshield shattered
then I would expect some possible frame damage.  I'd look at all the welds, paint chips are usually good signs that the metal has been compressed/stretched.

Look at the "ears" on the headstock, too, it's common for them to be bent and the welds to tear if there's a strong hit to the handlebars.

Might want to inspect the front forks and "reset" them.
I'd also check rear wheel alignment.

Will look at that he hit me from behind and in the dark I didn't see no frame damage but will check all the welds when it is sunny tomorrow I didn't get hurt full leather suit and helmet don't ride with out it. I checked the forks for bends and they are straight dose not pull one way and spun both wheels by hand to check if they were off set or bent and came up clear there, also check chain to see if it was still straight and nothing shifted from the hit so just need to check the welds for damage thanks for that advice I would not have thought of paint flakes being a sign. Going in Tuesday to get checked out shoulder is killing me could just be pain from landing on it but better safe then sorry. And if anyone can chime in on slipons would be nice just need to know if I need to find specific ones to my bike or any make and model will do.

Typically you want to stick bike specific because of the position of the rear hanger.  The wrong slip on may not put the hole in the right spot.
That being said, if you're going to a shorty you won't be using the hanger, so a universal should do you.

I wasn't hit but I had a low-side a few years ago.  Full gear, I ended up with a sprained wrist and a bruised shoulder.  Nothing permanent.
Always good to get checked out just to be sure, but if anything was broken you would have known by now.  Plenty of rest should do you good.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad you're okay. I use the Tapatalk app to post pics from my phone - they have their own photo host server so it makes posting photos really easy.

ABSOLUTELY DO THIS because injury symptoms can be delayed. I had an accident in 2010 with no symptoms at the scene, so I went home and rested for a few days. A week later I go out for a jog and my hip feels off. Went to the doctor and got xrays and then MRI, turns out I had two herniated discs and a torn hip labrum. Chronic pain for a year followed by surgery.
