Lowest rpm that the engine pulls from in higher gears.

My GS does not pull well in high gears below 3000 rpm.Is this normal?   It pulls away smoothly in lower gears,
Thank you.

Low in the rev range the GS does not generate much torque, so the bike will not pull very hard. Peak torque/power is somewhere between 8K and 9K RPMs if I remember correctly.

If I may ask, why are you attempting to cruise that low in the rev range?

Hi, biking is new to me so the juddering/snatching was a surprise,I thought it would pull evenly if not strongly at low rpm.Made me think there is a fault? Appreciate any further thoughts you have.

It sounds to me like you're trying to ride with the RPMs so low that the bike is almost stalling. Maybe try downshifting once (maybe even twice) instead of trying to keep the RPMs that low. The throttle response and the feel of the bike will be better a bit further up in the rev range.

Personally, I like to cruise around 5-6K and I shift around 8.5-9K when trying to accelerate quickly.

+1 to qc

I don't think there is a fault with the bike based on what you've described. It's just the way they are. It'll pull at low rpms in low gears... not at low rpms in high gears.

I have found that on longer rides, highway gets pretty boring and the constant high rpms gets a bit annoying... it'd be nice for the GS to be in 6th on the highway, going like 70 and be sitting at 3k or less rpms... but how the bike is stock, that doesn't happen.

I hope that makes sense... I know what I wanna say but it was hard for my brain to word it correctly lol

Downshift to accelerate. That's the nature of the beast.

FWIW I tend to cruise around at 3-4K rpm in 5th and 6th gear all the time, but you can't really accelerate from those revs at those speeds, have to downshift. I am not a fan of the droning noise at 5K+ rpm for cruising.

Shifting gears is one of the joys of riding a motorcylce IMHO :)
