Possible rear shock swap option

So I had a good working zx600a shock lying so around and while I had my bike up for my underbelly exhaust build I decided to see if it would fit. It has air assist and adjustable dampening 1 - 4. It fit it no problem. The bottom mount on the shock is wider so you'll need a lightly longer bolt and some washers or shims. I haven't ridden it more than just in front of my house because the exhaust is under construction but feels good so far. It's the shock off the 86 ninja 600

Welcome to the site Steely!!!

Awesome information and super cool to possibly have another easy option for swapping the rear shock. Can you post up some pics? The more the merrier lol!

Nice!! What kind of headlight is that?

Can you take any pictures of the shock? Like close ups of how it fits, etc?

It rubs barely when unloaded but not when sitting on it.

The headlight is a custom made piece from carbon fibre and the tank I'm still working on is a stainless cover over an aluminum fuel cell. Might switch the tank cover to aluminum depending how it comes out.

Very interesting! You should start a thread in the Projects/Builds section to show all of what you're doing :thumb:

Well my underbelly failed so I ended up with this. Gotta finish a tiny bit of weld and paint then I can test the shock fully. Took it for a short spin last night and it felt amazing so far but I can't remember the old one to compare lol anyway hopefully Monday I'll have it finished up and I'll be able to give you the results.

Did those fork-seal guard things come with the bike or are they a later addition? and what does the wire welded to the exhaust downpipes do?

You should also write to Suzuki and find out why they didn't make the instrument-cluster-housing out of aluminium (or effect thereof) too!

but most importantly, why does everyone have a shiny engine but me!!!

There's actually 2 wires welded and it was temporary to hold the pipes in place. It'll be removed before paint. The guards were on the forks. I wish i had a black frame to be honest. The stock gauges will probably go one day. There will most likely be header wrap and a belly fairing at some point.

So here's a few more angles. I took it for a spin around town and it felt really good. Especially over all of the crappy roads. It's almost as if it made the front feel better too somehow lol the front would always bottom out.
