Does anyone know where the oil relief valve is located?

The best I can do is supply these two images and maybe what you need is somehow contained within them.

It's likely labelled as "bypass" in the first photo User supplied, where it is on the second I haven't the foggiest.

It's probably a part that doesn't really go bad, why do you need to get to it?

On old yamaha's it was in the bolt that runs down the center of the filter holding the filter and the hatch down.

I suspect in the GS its the spring that holds the filter to the oil galley, when pressure is in excess of that spring tension it will let the filter move out (forward) and let the oil flow bypass it.

It's part 16440-11D00 and shown on parts fiches like this one part 6 on diagram  http://shop.shspowersports.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=92661&category=Motorcycles&make=SUZUKI&year=2001&fveh=2102

You can see what it looks like above, I saw a picture of it once posted but can't remember where it was located. Possibly in the sump.   :dunno_black:

Yes, it's an actual part and I suspect it's in the sump.... grrr I think I'll just take it down and have a look.

What ???? GS has a sump ??? you mean the oil pan ???
That got no pressure. How can there be a bypass there ? what would it be bypassing.
Bypass is if your filter is clogged or your fuel pressure is too high to flow through the filter.

Well, I dunno but it's an actual part that you can buy at the Suzuki dealership nd they do go bad every once and  while.

If the oil pump is pumping enough oil to lube the top of the engine at idle it would be putting out way to much flow and pressure at 10k rpm so some oil must be dumped back to sump to relieve flow and pressure.  Suzuki calls it a regulator assy.  Yes, sump=oil pan area.

Yes, I just wish I knew where it was.

iv built a few 425 450 and 500 motors and non of them have a dedicated oil pressure valve, there is a relief valve built into the filter, if your filter is blocked or missing you will have oil supply problems, if you are hearing scary noises then its alredy to late and its time for a rebuild.
if you plan to fail do you still fail to plan?
