For reasons I won't bore you with, my bike will soon be drained and cleaned of all fuel, then brought into my living room to be torn down. One item on my list is check float bowl height again, so I had an idea. Instead of gasoline why not just use 99% isopropyl alcohol? It's liquid after all and won't fume up the place like gas would. I don't think momentary contact would damage o-rings or floats. Thoughts?

Maybe it's obvious and I'm not seeing it.....but why not just use water? If the carbs are aired out thoroughly afterwards, water won't hurt anything at all.

Setting floats with alcohol

Unless it's really hot, I try and leave the alcohol for when I've finished working on the bike ;¬)
