That eccentric axle carrier doubles a s a ride height adjuster too. Awesome design.

Haha!  I don't think I ever considered that.

I'm sure the adjustment doesn't amount to much...

It would if you could rotate the whole plot 180 degrees.

Getting back to the SV, I hope that saddle is more comfotable than it looks. Looks as though you would slide to the front and stay there.
Mind you, the GS saddle is nothing to write home about. Mine is starting to pull the seam apart at the step and I am considering a re-shape when it comes time to fixi it.

URRGHH THERES A XSR900 WITH MY NAME ON IT FOR ONLY 7,000 USD AT MY LOCAL DEALER SHIP...

only thing that has kept me from buying it, the bikes ECU limits it to 130mph, IT CAN TOTALLY DO MOREEEEE.

But why would you want it to (unless you're planning on tracking it)?

because MOARRRRRRRRRR IS BETTER.

no I seriously think that's stupid, meanwhile you have the R1... that is just as street legal as the 900, with no limits.. with way more top end power? wut.. they should have an option bike, that says "I've been riding longer then 6 months, gimmie da power mode!"

I mean yeah... you could probably re-tune? de-tune? the ECU. maybe throw on some bigger injectors [cause lets be real, EPA is up everyone's butts now] but doing that, on a brand new bike..? bye bye any sort of warranty.

Well, I've never really cared for numbers in a street bike, if I like the way a bike looks, sounds, "feels", and it's in my budget, I'll get it.  It's governed to 130?  Whatever, I'll likely not even break 100.  Only reason I've gone faster than that on my Duc and my Buell is curiosity.

But that's just me.

Then again, to me Honda flip-flopping their horn and turn signal switch compared to everyone else is reason enough for me to not own one, at least so long as it's going to be an additional bike rather than a replacement bike.

the XSR900 is a yamaha?

that or I'm very tired and missed where this talk of honda's turn signal switch locations came from. lol

Yes, I know it's a Yamaha, I was just stating how some minor thing like switch placement on Hondas would make me not get them while to others they could care less.
Much like how a governed bike is a deal breaker for you but I wouldn't mind.

Re-reading what I wrote I can see where I could have worded it a little better.

ohhh I get it now. yeah.

it's not so much its governed at 130, its when it gets to 100mph it gets super sluggish because of it being governed.

You can do an ECU re-map to remove the restriction, and while yes, that would void your warranty, if anything happens you can always revert the ECU map back to stock before bringing it in for service and they would have no way to know that you had it re-mapped prior. Bigger injectors might be a bit harder to revert to stock before service.

That's a negative, not a positive IMO. :)

Back to the "new" SV650.
The motor is an OLD design from the late 80's , like the GS500.
It is way too big and heavy physically. Needs a redesign and a modern gearbox reshuffle to reduce both size and weight.  A modern 2x325cc water cooled motor should be much smaller. Aprillia made a much smaller RXV 500 v twin a few years ago showing the size it should be . It was very unreliable because they insisted on titanium valves and that tech hadn't caught up yet. Some pics ( https://www.google.com.au/search?q=aprilia+rxv+450+motor&biw=2560&bih=1329&tbm=isch&source=iu&pf=m&ictx=1&fir=2_fK4RuHnI-XHM%253A%252CaT2dWaL4bc46UM%252C_&usg=__oBAiomUf92kikWlHrO0sHirbWWE%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiJ-9i76eHWAhUDwLwKHSfXBXIQ9QEIKjAA#imgrc=chlfFp4PJMaW )

There is nothing wrong with a properly designed tubular frame for a road bike and KTM shows that it can be lighter than an Al one.

Oh, I never had a bike with that, but what's the disadvantage ?
Cool.

Ride height is an important parameter in setting up a bike's geometry, once you have it right you don't want to change it when you adjust the chain.
Not a big deal on a street bike, but a major PITA on a race bike.
