Ignition switch replacement

Hello, I'm changing the key-operated switch with a remote control device (on a 2004 CF Moto V3) and I am not sure about the wiring. The remote control device is a simple on/off controlled by a key fob.
On the bike, the key-ignition has 5 wires on the plug:1-hot, 2-grounds, & 2 different wires that I assume power the bike.
Using a multimeter what things do I test for? Why would it have 2 separate ground wires?
Thoughts?

1. the answers are probably given in the wiring diagram. Google it, you'll find scans from the Haynes manual.

Yeah, I have the wiring diagram, but it only shows 1 ground wire. I am planning on trying to jump hot to one of the 2 non-grounds and see if I get lights (then, see if it cranks.)
I'm not too familiar with cut-off switches (kill switch, kickstand cutoff, etc) and was thinking that may account for the extra wires. There are 3 key positions: off, on, & gas tank release)
Ignition block is really heavy, remote unit weighs almost nothing and does the same job.
