You had a dirty connection there. I have had that happen in a 1983 nighthawk 650 in 1994.
You take care of that nick in the wire as well. Just so it doesn't short to the frame and burn up something.

That rubber clip think - spray with wd40 and gently wiggle a plastic prong or a plastic knife through and wiggle it out.
