New (to me) 06 GS500f! A few questions

So I just recently bought a 2006 gs500f for a pretty decent deal and was hoping you guys could answer some questions for me :D

So this bike has been sitting for some time (about 2 or 3 years) but the guy I bought it from said he regularly started it and kept fresh gas in it.
The only wrong with it was when you would try to put it in gear, it was like you weren't even holing the clutch in.
So I'm a little mechanically inclined and didn't want to spend bookuu amounts of money on a mechanic so I figured I'd fix it myself.
And well, I did. The pressure plates and clutch plates were completely stuck together! So I just pulled them out and soaked them in oil for a little bit and stuck em back in and it worked fine! I do plan on buying new clutch plates in the future, but for now it will have to do.
Now for the question to do with that. When taking apart the case cover, I'm not entirely sure if I had to or not, but I removed the starter generator. The thing that's under the Suzuki emblem on the case. And I'm not entirely sure I put it back in the same way it came out.
The bike still starts up every time with no effort but I was just wondering if that will have an effect if I put it in incorrectly??

Next question!
The bike stalls out eventually when the petcock is in the on position, but runs fine in Reserve. Was wondering if reserve had vacuum like the on position does? I haven't took the petcock apart yet but was just curious if maybe it was a vacuum leak or just a clogged port. Any thoughts?
Also, I'm sure I can ride it on res all the time with no negative effect I'm assuming?

Last question!
Bike needs a new rear tire due to it sitting for quite some time. Found this and was wondering about your thoughts?

I've checked the wiki and haven't seen anything about the Street version of the Pilots.

Anyways, thats it for now. I'm really excited to be apart of this forum and this is my first Street bike so excited to start riding! And sorry if this thread is formatted like Garbage, I never really posted on a forum before lol

What you are referring to is called the "signal generator", or colloquially a pickup coil and pickup rotor.  I don't know a whole lot about it personally, but I would think that either it works or it doesn't.  If it wasn't reinstalled correctly you'd either be out of time or not getting spark, in either case the bike wouldn't run so  :dunno_black:

Both ON and RES are vacuum actuated.  ON misbehaves even with a full tank?  It must be related to the fuel line, then.  Either the line running from the tank petcock to the frame petcock is clogged/clogging, or the "stem" in the tank that the ON draws from is clogged.  Lines are much easier (and cheaper) to replace, I'd start there.

You can ride on RES all the time, the obvious disadvantage would be that you have no warning that you're almost out of fuel.  It's not really a problem, so long as you keep track of your gas mileage and remember to reset the trip odometer every fill up to use as a sort of gas gauge.  People who bypass the vacuum petcock all together end up having to do this.

I have no personal experience with the Pilot Street Radial, however I have some experience with Michelins in general and have nothing but good to say!  I've had Pilot Power 2CTs on my Buell and have the Pilot Road 4s on my Ducati right now.  I'll be getting the Road 5s for the Duc once the 4s have run their course.  I wouldn't hesitate at all to use Michelin tires.
That being said, buyer beware of places that are selling tires extra cheap.  If it seems too good to be true, it usually is, as a lot of times online retailers will discount old stock to bring in newer production date rubber.  Tires are only really good 5 years from date of manufacture, regardless of the apparent condition, and many places will flat out refuse to mount tires that old for liability reasons.  A tire that's well under the competitors' prices is likely a tire that's at the end of it's life, despite being new.

Dang, super fast reply 😊 Loving this forum already 👍
And that's what I was thinking as far as the signal generator. It doesn't seem to be misfiring or anything so hopefully it won't hurt anything.

And cool that's what I needed to know, I'll take the line off sometime this week and check it out. I'm just glad it's not vacuum related. Seen some threads on here about vacuum issues and doesn't sound like fun at all lol. Hopefully it's just a clogged line.
I put some sea foam in the tank when I got it but haven't ridden it really at all due to the back tire. Just let it start and idle for a good 20 minutes to keep the fluids flowing.

And yeah you're probably right on that, every where else that sells that tire are a little more expensive. I better be safe than sorry and just get a decent rear.

But thanks for the input, is greatly appreciated! Happy to be apart of this forum!

Re" Micxhelin pilots.
I have been riding for over 40 years and NOTHING I have used comes close to Michlein pilot Road 4's ....Nothing. in the heat or cold, wet nor dry...
Pilot road 3's are not that great. And Michelin Road ( no Pilot) 5's are now out and , in theory, are even better. I know there are Michelin Pilot Road 4's in 140/70 as I put one on my TR650 Husky. That will fit straight on the rear.  With the new ones coming out you might find a bargain or two.
PR4's have a compliant feel, so if you like a harsher tyre then you might want to go Dunlop or Bridge s21.
