Hey all! I am Ren and I'm new here, new to motorcycles, and new to putting them back together. Last week I picked up a used 2004 gs with 9,000 miles for under $1000. Great deal! Only catch was I had to reassemble it from ground up. Long story short, I'm good for everything except the wiring harness. I'm having difficulty figuring out how everything is supposed to fit in the bikes tiny frame. I do have a manual and I've been following along faithfully, but wiring is all new to me. I honestly think a decent resolution photo or two would help me dramatically. Thanks for taking time to read this!

Hi Ren, congrats on the bike purchase!

Without the plastics and whatnot, the wiring on the GS is pretty crazy/messy looking in spots.

Are you curious about the whole wiring layout from front to back? Or just the mess of wires Suzuki crammed into the headlight bucket on the E models? On the F models they tucked it all kinda neatly (from what I've read) under the gas tank.

There are tons of pics that might be helpful over in the Projects section of the forum. It's hard to pinpoint exactly which ones'd be the most helpful, so if you have time, browse around there while waiting for more replies.

I just finished a journey in 04 wiring.  Where are you stuck?  You can start at the tail light and lay it out slowly, connecting as you go, zip tie here and there until you get all the way to the front.  It's not too difficult if you aren't trying to splice and re-figure out what somebody else cut out or what doesn't match.

Where pics? :dunno_black:

The factory manual includes diagrams that show how the wiring should be positioned.

Download one here....

Just make sure you are following the corrrect years wiring. ie you have the correct annex in the manual.
The GS is fairly messy , I suspect because it has been around for so long, and there have been a large number of wiring changes which were sort of "stuck on".

Hey all! I uploaded a video to youtube detailing my wiring woes. I couldn't figure out how to post pictures here. Thanks for all your help!
