Hi all,
I went to install this headlight (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MS10VTK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
When I took apart my headlight from the bucket and trim ring, I noticed that my bulb itselft had mounting tabs attached to the outer side of the bulb. This threw me for a loop. I wasnt expecting the bulb to have attachement points, i was expecting there to be another ring that has the attachement points.

Is there there an adaptor bracket/ring i can buy? or am i stuck with a old school glass bulb?

Thanks

Hi ferda,

Do you have any pics of your headlight and bulb? I'm curious to see what you're talking about. When I click that second link you provided, it's only showing me a pic of the new headlight you bought.

I agree with what you said, the H4 bulb should just have tabs that line up with the glass lens/reflector and then a springy piece of metal that holds tension on the back of the bulb... not mounting tabs that attach to anything.

Here's a pic from my bike years ago. It's the stock headlight reflector/lens, (chrome outer mounting ring still attached) with the H4 bulb installed. Does yours look like this?
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

This is what the headlights look like. Notice the tabs on towards the bottom and left of the headlights.

From what I see in that picture, it looks stock. Same as mine was, just rotated a bit.

If you pull off the rubber boot, you'll see the springy piece of metal that holds the bulb in the lens. The lens is the biggest part of the whole headlight assembly. It's the glass and the reflector bowl... not the actual bulb.

The screw in the lower left corner of your picture is to help aim the headlight.

I'm thinking that to get the headlight you bought to work with the GS's housing, you'll hafta remove the lens ("lamp unit" in the link below) from the ring(s) and mount the new headlight to that. Then put it in the housing and bolt it back onto the bike.

The diagram in this link here should help ya understand what I'm talking about in regards to the parts of the headlight assembly:

I wasn't trying to just replace the bulb. I have bought an entire lamp assembly. What i am having is trouble getting the bracket off the existing bulb.

It's not the bulb. It's the reflector and the mount for the bulb. You'll have to fabricate something.
