I'm not sure if this is pointing to a problem or if it's normal. I was checking the bike with a torch and saw this orange dust I've not noticed before. However when I check it without the torch the orange because almost invisible. So now I don't know if this is a recent occurrence or if it's always been there but I've not notice. I'm thinking it wouldn't be the stator because it appears to be coming from outside the sealed section.

Is this orange dust telling me something perhaps about the front sprocket? The only difference between the two shots below is one is illuminated with a torch.

It's not wet so it's not internal.

Orange is rust, and if it's dust/powdered it has either been ground off of something and deposited onto the surface (I'm looking at you, brake rotor)(or if you've ever treated the headers for rust without removing them from the bike), or it's slowly been developing naturally over time.

You can play the same game with a UV torch in any motel room.  I don't recommend it if you plan to sleep there. :o

I think it's your torch just giving a slight color shift to the dirt and grease that's there for whatever reason.  I'd clean it off and see if it comes back.

"White" LEDs don't give a true white light.  It just looks white to our eyes.  There's a lot of gaps in the spectrum.  Rather like a TV that mixes red, green, and blue to simulate other colors.
