Need help from the racers!!

I'm doing my first track day on May 24. Gonna buy  JamesG's old leathers, got a nice snell approved helmet, etc. The dude at the shop told me I need snell approved boots. First off, I thought snell only rated helmets, so the boot thing is news to me. Second, how the hell do I know the boots are rated? I have a middle of the price range pair of Joe Rocket boots. Not sure of the model name, but they're fairly new. They're not race boots, but are armored at the shin, ankle, and heel. The only tag on them  is the "designed and developed in Italy" tag. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Snell doesn't approve boots!

There are CE ratings for boots and armour, but nobody in the US pays any attention to CE marking.

Any decent motorcycle boots will be completely acceptable. They just done't want you out there in running shoes or hiking boots.

Man, I'm not crazy after all!! Thanks Kevin. My buddy that I'm riding up there with was at the shop today and told me the guy told him we needed snell rated boots.  Thanks for the quick response - I'd have been laying up in bed all night figuring out how the hell I was going to come up with the cash for new boots!! Now I can finish this beer and snooze in peace!

And I thought the dudes at my local shop were idiots, but that takes the cake. Sounds like the guy needs to read a motorcycle magazine or two. At least that way he might actually sound like he knows what he is talking about.

I try to buy large mikuni main jets ... and the moron at the counter wants me to spell... guess what ... Mikuni. I said Ok If you want me to spell mikuni I think we are kinda screwed here. My wife burst out laughing when she heard that.
