Brake compound

Hey I'm going to apply some anti squeak compound to the rear brake pads to see if that stops them from making so much noise when braking. Do I apply this to the rear of the pads so it's ok the anti chatter plate or on the back of that plate? Thanks

I don't know that it matters, but since not all pads even have those thin aluminum backers I would apply it to the outermost surface that contacts the caliper piston.

Or if it were me, I'd just ignore the squeaking.  The vibration doesn't necessarily harm anything, and I wouldn't want to risk contaminating the pads by accident.


My Ducati has sounded like an old bus since I got it.  It's much better now after getting new pads, but it still wails on occasion.  Just part of what makes my bike unique, I guess.

I applied some red anti-squeak goo to the backs of the pads and the backs of the shims on mine. Stopped the squeak completely... for about 2 days.
I've recently also added some brake lube (Bendix Ceramasil brake lube) to the two pins that hold the brake pads on, and that has helped a bit as well. Now instead of squealing like a pig every time I look at the rear brake lever, they only squeak about 30% of the time.

I really wish I knew how to fix this for sure, but considering how often I hear about it online, and one of my work colleagues who also has a GS500 says his squeak as well, I think it's just part of the design that they will squeak.
