Hey,

right now I have one orginal Suzuki key. It seems to be wearing out and I would like to get another set of keys incase I would lose this orginal set..I've tried the local hardware stores [home dep. and Lowe's]  and their cutting machines lack the tolerances to reproduce a key that works  ... Does anyone know of a "local" places that might beable to help me out?

A locksmith that can do automotive/motorcycle keys should be able to make you a key based on the code stamped on the ignition (i think its on the bottom of it).

My key's been doing the same thing.  I was planning to replace the whole ignition switch.  I always see them on ebay and such.  Looks like a simple swap and plug-in job...

OK dont just change the ignition... the worst one for keys is that seat latch. Mine broke off in there long ago. Get a key made from a locksmith with the numbers off the key and not the key itself.
Cool.

Just in case you have not tried it:
A little WD-40 sprayed in the lignition fixed my truck key turning problem.

Other than the issue with using the same key for the helmet lock and the ignition is there any other problem with switching the ignition?

I've removed the helmet lock from my bike (I wouldn't leave my helmet outside for the freaks to abuse...I know I used to drop things in helmets when I was a kid, so...) so that's not an issue.

I'd really like to figure out how to get the gas cap and the ignition keyed the same.  Then again, I've been thinking about removing the gas cap and replacing it with a non-locking cap (Fast by Ferraci sells a few...).

If you get another Suzuki ignition (as opposed to an aftermarket EMGO or something), where you know the key BLANK will fit both, you can have a locksmith cut a two-sided key.  Not as convenient as having all the locks keyed the same, but cheaper and more quickly done.  (Assuming you have both keys to use as a pattern.)

I had to replace my ignition after "bumping into" a certain cow, so my ignition takes a different key than my seat & filler cap locks.  I carried two keys for a few years, until I Finally had a key made!.  Now I just carry the one.

Hmmm - oddly enough I already carry around 2 keys... one for the tank and one for the ignition.  Makes me wonder if the PO replaced the ignition when they crashed the bike...hmmm...
