Hi,
Just recently bought a 1992 model, and it has the angled clip on bars, Im finding it uncomfortable on a long run, wrists are hurting.
Can anyone please point me in the direction of some straight / cow handlebars?

Regards,
Steve

If you want straight bars, or drag bars, or superbike bars, whatever, you will need to change the mounting plate first. It's a simple switch over, just bolts on, and somebody on this forum will be more than happy to take those factory clip-ons off your hands.

I did the opposite - swapped out the original bars for the clip-ons. I've got some carpal tunnel tingling and numbness from years of bicycle riding, but no problems on the GS.

One advantage of regular bars over clip-ons is you can adjust the position to suit you before tightening them up. Maybe even get taller risers.

Check out the wiki link for more information about handlebar swaps and helpful pics! It's true, if you do have "stock" clip-ons, you'll have to swap out the top plate. Once you do that, you can put on several different kinds of bars.

As you'll see on the link ShowBizWolf posted (the one I forgot to include in my reply), the clip-on brackets came in three different heights. You may be able to find the tallest ones for less than the cost of a top plate (there always seem to be a lot more of them than the shortest bracket). That way your wrists will be at the same height as most of the straight bars you'll find.

I suppose a lot depends on the rider's height - the shortest brackets work fine for me at 5'10", but someone a lot shorter or a lot taller would no doubt benefit from having a lot more options.

Yeesh, I really should think my responses through rather than adding to them over and over again.

Anyways, if you do decide to consider taller mounting brackets, you'll probably have much better luck looking on British or Euro Ebay. They were pretty thin on the ground in Canada and US when I was shopping.
