I sold my GS last night.

I imagine this will be one bike I will look back on wishing I had kept. I used to lust after a 500cc Triumph, then realized my GS had more or less the same power-to-weight ratio, may or may not have handled better (never rode one, so no idea) but certainly had better brakes, electrics and oil-tightness. It did not have the visuals of an old Triumph twin, but was still a nice looking bike, with round headlight, factory clip-ons and Ferrari/Norton/Ducati yellow.

But I fell for what was essentially a 17-year-old demo (only 750 miles!) Sportster Roadster, and could not justify licensing and insuring two bikes. I don't subscribe to the whole "bald eagles and bandanas" thing, I wear the same gear on the Sportster as I did on Little Suzi. Yes, the Sportster is probably a better made bike, and I can say goodbye to lubing the chain, adjusting the valves and removing the gas tank just to change the air filter. But you'll never hear me trash talking a GS500 (unless it's wearing a fairing).

This is a good forum, I'll still check in from time to time. And maybe whine about how I wish I'd kept mine.

An 03 sportster ? is it one with a cast crank ??? Look that up, that chit disintegrates on normal riding.

In the end you'll always go back to the Jap bikes, you will see why especially if you go to big bikes. Bullet proof compared, even the GS! 👌👌
