05 GS500f not starting

Hey guys. So this is my first motorcycle and im trying to get it up and running. Im having an issues doing that though because I have no clue whats going on with it. sounds like theres no teeths left on starter gear or magneto, open up the left cover and check. Probably runs if you push start it, but npt recommended if theres gear pieces laying around
