After I went down

Soooooo... everything has been going great until I was riding three weeks ago and it poured for like 5 minutes then went away. I took a left turn too fast and she started to slip. My 2009 gs500f. I tried to correct and it slipped out from under me and slid down the road on the right side of the fairings.  I wasn't going too fast but wasn't wearing my gear either... I know I know.... got some road rash and now I'm all better and ready to get back out.

So far it seems mostly cosmetic damage.. But the chain was too loose after the crash. Still got it home but now that I have cleaned it up and tightened the chain she seems a little off when riding. It's not pulling to any one side but my left arm feels straight while my right arm is bent on the handlebars.

So I checked the alignment and it looks good within a mm or so. But on the centrestand it still looks off. So I measured from the floor to the top of the swingarms and the right side is 6mm higher than the left. Do you guys thing it's just my centrestand off or my frame is bent? Any suggestions where to start to figure out what is off?

Thanks!

It could also be that the handlebar is bent. That's what happened when the previous owner of my 2004 GS500F came off. When I bought it, I rode like that for a few weeks, but it never felt right - until I replaced the handlebar.

OMG, you're measuring all sorts of rando crap ...
You can bend a handlebar easily in a drop.
You likely didn't bend the frame unless you ran head first into a semi truck. Even then, you likely bent the forks before the frame.
Chain gone loose etc etc - well was it fine before the drop ??? when was the last time you checked before the crash ?

Your frame is built for bear, it will rust and fall apart before it will bend, but dont take that as a challenge and start running into things. Swingarm is even tougher to damage than the frame.

Thanks guys, I will definitely check the handlebars though they do appear very straight. Cheap enough fix and I was thinking about changing them anyway.

I had actually just adjusted the chain about a week or so before the lay down and it was perfect. So on the ride home I noticed it slapping the center stand when I slowed down. I re-adjusted it and made sure the alignment was right and it still seemed off. Did some google searches and found a whole bunch of bent frame stuff so I started thinking too much about it I think. Then while looking and looking and looking at it I kept seeing stuff that seemed a little off and started measuring it trying to find what I believe I was seeing.

The center stand will bend if you dump it on the left side. That part for your foot to press down, its gonna hit the ground first and twist the stand.

I' with Buddha on this. Centerstand is probably bent. Handlebars are almost definitely bent. They will bend any time the bike hits the ground. The front end may also be out of alignment, it's easy to get it misaligned and hard to check and be sure it's straight. Your chain thing is probably you just didn't get it locked down after adjusting it or you adjusted it wrong. It could have moved in the wreck, but the swingarm didn't bend. Move it back, tighten it up properly this time ;)

Replacement Handlebars ordered, I will search through the posts for some fork and front end alignment.

I had the chain tightened by a "pro" while I was getting something else checked so that is entirely possible. I tightened it myself after the accident with the wisdom gleaned from the forum.

The Centerstand being bent makes sense, and it would contribute to the something looks wrong feeling when I look at her.

Thank you again for all the help!

OMG more rando crap without diagnosing it first.
