GS dies as soon as I apply throttle

Hi all,

My GS dies as soon as I roll on the throttle. It had been very cold blooded, and wouldn't rev very easily until it was warm... When i was cold, you could coax it through this major flat spot, then there would be a huge rush of power like a turbo boost. Over a period of one month, it got worse and worse, until you just couldn't coax it through the flat spot, and instead it would just die. It revs higher if you have the choke on, but it still dies if you rev it.

So far I have drained the float bowls, checked for spark, examined the carb diaphragms for tears, and replaced the vacuum aps.

still to do: replace spark plugs, replace fuel.  Possibly replace carb slides. Check plug wires and electrical system.

Could it be...water in fuel? bad CDI? Bad ground?

Could it be stiff carb diaphragms ?

Any advice much appreciated!

thanks.

What does air filter look like ?
Also you drained the float bowls, but did you clean the carbs ? It sounds like you have a plugged up pilot jet.
Cool.

Buddha is right, I think. clogged pilot jet. Happens to me all the time.

Check the temperature difference between the headers; it sounds like it's only running on one cylinder.

Our bikes are very coldblooded and take a decent amount of time to warm up properly.

Maybe this section of the wiki will help:

Hi all,

I think it will turn out to be water in the gas.  carbs had a little rusty sediment in them but jets were clear.

thanks !
