Hi there,

I've got a 2001 GS500 with 40k kilometers on the clock. Recently I dropped my bike off at the shop to get some internal issues fixed. I was having vibration issues, unstable idle and the airbox hose leaked gasoline. They cleaned and synced the carbs (which had some nasty stuff in it) and also checked the valve clearances.

When riding back home I noticed the vibration issues that I had had gotten worse. I can now feel the bike vibrating like mad whenever I hit 4k RPMs. It gets worse when going up in the RPMs and when I pull in the clutch the vibrations are gone. Between 5k and 6k RPM's the mirrors are unusable, although that was an issue even before I had the whole of the bike vibrate like now. After riding for 15 minutes I can still feel the vibration in my feet when I get off the bike. It's most noticeable in the pegs, and for some reason the left peg is worse. I can feel it in the tank and handlebar as well, but not as bad.

When I called the shop where I had the work done they mentioned it might be the sprockets and chains. However, these are about 10 months old and seem fine. The chain's tensioned and lubed properly as well. I tightened the nuts that I could access today, but that didn't seem to help either. Spark plugs were replaced November 2021 and the oil and oil filter were done two weeks ago.

Anyone want to take a guess at what's causing this issue? I love the bike but now I kind of dread getting on because of the way it feels.

Hey mate, make sure your the engine mounts are torqued to spec. I believe there are 4. Also check the fuel tank is mounted correctly on the rubber pad at the front. Other than that, wait for some of the veterans to jump on with some other ideas. I'd be inclined to take it back to the shop if they've done something to make it worse though. Good.luck

Well, I removed the tank but all rubbers seem to be intact.

Then shaZam! hit the fan, I tried removing and retorqueing the engine bolts. The front rear one then snapped clean off...

Anyone have any experience removing those? Seems like because they're so long they should be able to be spun out from one side, but I haven't had time to try yet... If it's not as easy as thought I'll bring it to another shop...

The pain lives on through stupidity!
