I know that Egli did a lot of racing and modified many different motorcycles.

One thing I wonder about is if anyone has experimented with regular, non-vacuum carbs. Also, many Japanese motorcycles have intake ports that are too big. The Yamaha 650 twin is a good example.

I put a set of standard carbs on one of my builds and it ran great. better pick up. more grunt and a higher top speed.
I have the info with my carb supplier so kits can be made up with all the cables and splitters etc. The carbs were VMs

I'd appreciate the information on the carbs. Thanks

The Carbs were VM34s and I had the kit made up from Allens Performance in the UK.
If you email them sales@allensperformance.co.uk and mention the kit that was made for GRmoto for the GS500. (A chap called dave made it all up) I ran a K&N filter connected straight to the carbs so did away with the Air Box. Its not straightforward. However if you get the full kit it makes it a lot easier. I have done all the hard work having them developed into a kit.
I have also developed a Fuel Tap modification to convert the fuel tap into an ON-OFF-RESERVE removing the problematic vacuum system.
The amount of GS engines I have drained with fuel contaminated Oil is quite alarming.
I have loads of Mods, Parts & vids to share when things aren't so busy!
