Hello, so I bought my frist bike last week (Suzuki GS500) and I have a question if anyone had this problem before. I can start my bike normally. I let it warm up to the working temps and when I start riding the bike, it works just fine, however about 2 miles into the drive, the bike starts losing power and dies. I was in the 3rd gear and when I opened the throttle, the bike did not accelerate at all. It started to slow down and when I came to a stop, it just turned off, even tho I set the idle last night and it ran perfectly for 10 minutes when I left it for testing purpuses. I read somewhere to try riding it with the petcock in the prime (I still have to test that), but I'm wandering if anyone has any idea as to what this could be? Maybe a fuel delivery problem?

I had similar problem with mine. Way too much rust and junk in the fuel tank that it clogged the petcock on the tank itself. If you dont have a fuel filter, put one between the frame petcock and carbs. Try setting the petcock on PRI(prime) when you go riding, it eliminates the vacuum and pours fuel non-stop, remember to get it back to ON or RES when you stop, because it might flood your carbs. If setting it on PRI helps, then it might be the vacuum coming to your petcock, or the petcock itself, if that doesnt help, then change fuel lines and clean your fuel tank

This sounds like your float bowls are filling up too slowly which suggests some sort of fuel starvation as nikola_01 has suggested.
This could be a number of things. Blocked fuel Pet chicken, Blocked Fuel Tap or Faulty Vacuum associated with the Fuel Tap Diafragm.
Best thing to do is strip the whole Fuel Delivery system and check each component/tube including the vacuum hose from the Carb to the Fuel Tap.
Just be sure to lift the tank about 75mm and use a long flat screw driver to turn off the Pet chicken before removing the fuel pipes!!

Good Luck and let us know how you get on.

I have developed a conversion for both types of fuel tap that eliminates the vacuum side of the tap and converts the tap to a ON OFF RESERVE.
Opened too many engines and found the Oil contaminated with Fuel due to faulty vacuum Taps.
To get something you have never had you have to do something you have never done.

im also pretty sure its just the float bowls i had the exact same issue all last week and i had no idea why it happened, once i bent those 2 little iron pieces a little further from the needle it stopped doing that so i can bet thats whats causing your troubles
