Long story short, what is the piece in the image below?

Long story:

I recently picked up a beautiful looking 04 GS500F out on the east coast. It was having some issues running and I started dealing with them bit by bit, and I eventually found a part located on one side of the carbs, but not symmetrically the other side. This part is in part responsible for centering/stabilizing the jet needle in position (and I believe also restricts gas flow passage as well). It's a tube/ring that goes right around the jet needle and falls into the same cylindrical hole that the main jet gets screwed into. This part goes in right before the main jet gets screwed in (that's the longest one right?) when you are working on the carbs with them facing up side down.

I'm trying to buy the part but can't identify it with certainty. I'm between "throttle valve", "push-in main jet", or "needle jet" and I'm not sure how to identify or purchase it. The closest I've gotten to seeing something identical is the piece next to the jet needle here: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/16012-KPS-901?utm_term=product&utm_source=criteo&utm_medium=retargeting&utm_campaign=lowerfunnel for Hondas.

I also looked through the Suzuki Manual: http://forum.gs500.pl/ftp/Studi/Suzuki_GS_500_E_F_1989-2009_Service_Manual.pdf and it seems like page 20-9 talks about a part called a "needle jet" with specification "P-5M" Which is very similar to what is inscribed on the mystery part "922M P-5". I tried searching through the carburetor diagram on page 4-2 but that wasn't helpful since it was created for earlier years.

I wasn't able to post the image above, so here it is!

That looks like the top of the emulsion tube, was it sticking in the path of the air flow ?
I dont know if you can buy that part.
Cool.

Look in a parts diagram and identify it by number and location. Dont worry about its name. We call things grommets, suzuki calls them cushion or some other.

I see. From my research it seems like the "emulsion tube" is also called the "needle jet" sometimes. Couldn't find that exact part in the diagrams, but I'm going to keep searching.

It was sticking in the path of the gas flow I believe. Literally goes around the jet needle, so what goes through the pilot jet goes through this piece too.

The Buddha

Emulsion tube is the brass piece the needle jet goes through. So no its not.

This piece was sticking in the gas flow or air flow ??? Find it on the parts fiche - you know where it came from - so use location and looks of the part as a guide.

Pilot jet's path is entirely different. Not going through this piece. This part is mains, emulsion tube, this piece, restricted by needle depending on where the slide is into air. As in its sticking in the air stream, but fuel flows through it as allowed by needle jet.

Thanks. I looked at the diagrams for hours, but they've been useless because the manuals are for the older versions (things changed in 04) and nothing looks liek it is in the manual (for example main jet is fairly large but is shown as small in the manual. And so the best clue I'm getting from the diagrams is the attached photo where:

16 = main jet
15 = jet holder
14 = o-ring
13 = needle jet
12 = jet needle (not show in photo but can clearly be recognized as the jet needle)

Suzukirider74

It is number 13 I belive and it is called a jet needle part number 13341-01DN0.

What a stupid name for that part - maybe its a jet needle guide. I dont know what the jap to english translator was smoking that day. Usually the mid 80's yamaha ones were the worst. IMHO suzuki anticipated being sold on every corner of the planet by then. Yamaha apparently didn't and their manuals reflected that.

The 89-00 GS carb rack doesn't have that part. I checked just now. You may have to cannibalize one of those 04 and laters. I dont know if the 01-02 has it, those carbs are different than the 04-09.

What I ended up doing (because I couldn't find the part for the gs 500 online) was purchasing the most similar looking carb repair kit for another motorcycle https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FT59JK6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (single cylinder 250 to try to match the size) that had that part, then I had to cut it because it was too long. Cutting it wasn't so bad. The bike is still not running well, but I think that I made lots of progress. At this point I might need to work on tuning it.
