Warm Up Time and Valve "clicking"

My 2002 seems not to want to warm up by itself in the a.m.  If i leave it alone idling, the tach falls quicly and my bike stalls.  Is this common on the 2002 models?

Also, I hear a persistent clicking noise (values) even after the my engine is warmed up.  Is this common?

LONG warm-up times are common to all GS500 years - might be a bit worse with the newer ones.  You need to increase the size of your pilot jet by one - for the 2001 and later that means a number 20 mikuni bleed type pilot.  You also need to remove the caps over the idle mixture screws and open them up to about three turns from lightly bottomed.  The exact amount will vary from 2 1/2 to about 4 turns.  Going up one size each on the mid-jet that got added from 2001 on and one on the mainjet will also help.

The valves of almost all air cooled bikes make more noise than water cooled bikes - Could not tell you if your clicking is normal without hearing it - but they all do make some noise at idle.  For peace of mind make sure that you have the valves checked at the normal service intervals per the manual.

if you rejet with biger main a pilot jets, your bike will warmup a lot faster...i don't know how long it took for my bike (92) to warmup with stock jetting because i bought it and took it apart right away...now, it takes my bike less then a minute to warmup on cold days
