Hi everyone,
I was giving my 02 GS500 with 15K Kms some due manteinance. I had a oil leak on the left side. I started removing the front sprocket cover, found a lot of gunk. The only part that felt wet to the touch was around the left cover, so I removed it aswell and found a big crack on the now 20 years old gasket.
First of all, I noticed that the clutch pin is quite a bit loose inside its seal. Is it normal?
Second of all, I noticed the magnets' epoxy bulging and lifting in some places, so I broke off all the lifted pieces and now I'm left with this. (see attachment)
Should I worry about goat? I plan on putting tons of Kms on this bike and right now it's my main commuter. I know loose magnets will ruin the whole engine so I'm being quite paranoid. What do you suggest to do based on your experience? The centre bolt feels tight to the hand. Should I crack open the oil pan and look for other pieces of epoxy?
Regards

The clutch pin will fit inside a groove in the cover and will be stable. Here's what my 02 GS500 looked like after 80K mi. I've had another high mile GS500 that looked similar but haven't had a problem...not sure if it just sits at the bottom of the oil pan or eventually breaks down.

I went through a very similar situation a few years ago. I carefully checked the magnets for any movement, cracks or damage (and found none). Everything has been good still, 5 years later.

Changing the oil pan gasket was also on my to-do list so I removed the pan and screen. The screen had collected a few of the orange epoxy bits and I'm happy I was able to remove them.

There are pics on this page of my project thread, a little bit past halfway down:
