Question about my new GS500F

There are a couple of relief hoses near the right foot peg, I believe one
belongs to the battery, what are the others? They seem to be dripping
some kind of fluid, don't know which one is the culprit, it is spraying on
my exhaust and starting to take the paint off. I've only had the bike for two days. I love this new 2004 bike, it rides and handles great.

Thank you.

Cool!  You should take pictures of it so we can vicariously have an F too.

Yes you should point the drain hoses away from your exhaust or any other metal fittings. The battery drain hose particularly should be directed to the ground because the acid will strip paint and corrode metal.

One is from the fuel tank- it is an overflow from near the filler cap so that if you overfill, or if your cap seal leaks, excess fuel runs out onto the road rather than onto your paintwork (or crotch!  :o ).
The other is from the bottom of the airbox- that's the one that has the one way valve on the bottom of it.  You will particularly notice that one dripping if you replace your airfilter with an oiled foam one, especially if you oil it too much.
Welcome to the site and to the GS500.  Have a good look around, there is a lot of experience and good advice here.  Carb stuff from 2001 onwards should be relevant to your bike.  I think your forks are a bit different.  otherwise most everything else applies across the models.  :thumb:

There is one with a flapper valve that comes from the bottom of the airbox.  But this one shouldn't be leaking fluid at all.

Welcome to GStwin! You are the first here with a GS500F! Glad you like the bike! If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area you must bring your bike to me for all of your service needs. One is from the fuel tank and the other is from the airbox which the crank case vent flows into, atleast thats how it is on my bike.  I very rarely see a drip from the crank case vent and never see one from the fuel vent.

"Sooo-eee!"  Welcome, Arkie!  I've got one brother in Little Rock, one in Conway, one in Lonoke, and a sister and my parents near Rose Bud (about an hour north of LR on Hwy 5).

Not only that, but my '99 GS500E was originally sold from a dealership in Hot Springs.  My Dad bought it used and hauled it out to UT for me.  (What a guy!)

I'm not exactly from Arkansas, but I spent almost 5 years of my life there, in 2 separate stints.  (My Dad was in the Air Force.)

Again...Welcome!

welcome to the board. Have you ever ridden the 500E?  I'd be curious to see what kind of differences there are.

Never ridden a 500 before, but I love the power this thing has pulling thru second and third gear. I think nothing has really changed on the bike except for the full fairing and I think the front shocks are different.

Great site, love all the info.

Future mods will include Yoshimura exhaust, rejetting, cutting down the hideously long liscense plate holder, shortening the turn signals, clock, digital speed, and if anyone knows about how I could possibly put on a temp gauge.

I just popped a rectal thermometer in the exhaust for a temp guage  :P

One thing that has changed was the addition (finally) of an oil cooler.  I, and possibly more than a few others, would like to see closeups of the plumbing involved to mount the thing.  Welcome to the board!
