i'm looking at buying a pair of bar ends, but the owner says they are made for a suzuki katana.  would these stll work for the gs?

RC

I'm pretty sure any standard bar ends will work. The bar is the standard 7/8" diameter if I remember right.

The bar ends are held by compressing a rubber piece against the inside of the bar.

This is only true for late-model GS500s.  As far as I know, models from 1989-2000 have a threaded insert inside the handlebar ends.  See the Add Fiber Washer picture from my Throttle Retainer page.  (Sorry for the less-than-ideal photo angle.  :( )

Both my '96 and my '99 had this style of bar end.

EDIT: Changed links from sisna.com to bbburma.net.

Why are they there?  Why do we have those extensions?  Why not make the bar longer?  I'd like that.  They don't stay tight and look like crap.  Are they sacrificial to protect the bar?

Minimal protection whent the bike is dropped.

ASLAM.

I have a 2000 GS and a 1989 Kat 750 and the bar ends are the same.  I don't know about other years.   :thumb:
