Hello- through much help from the site and a lack of decent priced good bikes here in northern florida I purchased my 1997 12000mi for 2000$. from the other postings it seems i may have been able to get it for a bit less else where but in fl every used bike is around 3500 and up. Or a purple ninja. the bike is awsome though not a touch of rust and babied by the original owner. i'm real glad i didn't go out and drop 7000$ on a sv650 or a fz6 for a first bike. when i was looking at bikes the suzuki dealer had a 2002 left over 1200 bandit demo that he was trying real hard to sell me. half way through the numbers game another salesmen walks by and states, oh you love that bike infact it has a jetkit and a twobrothers exhaust cause it's the first bike I've ever dropped. needless to say i passed on that deal. It's been three months since i passed the safty course looking for the right bike and i'm glad i finally found this bike. all the posts and mods on this site are great and i hope to start customizing soon. the front suspension mod looks like a must if i can get up the balls to try it. thanks from north fl...

Congrats on your new bike!!!

I have a 97 myself with 10,500 on the clock.  She runs great and its a blast in the twisties.   :thumb:

Did you buy from a dealer?  If so, you paid about the right price.  kbb lists the '97's retail as 2100, trade-in as 1500.

Any mods on it?  if not, get ready to do some wrenching!!!  The GS is awesome to work on, a great learning bike for riding and wrenching!

the bikeography is down for a bit

I'm also living in Florida, just south of Tampa. I bought myself a 1996 GS500E, 14,000miles for $1500. New K&N Air & Oil filters,NKG Plugs,Front & Rear Brakes,Front & Rear Foot Pegs. An air box removal kit has been installed. Flush mount rear turn signals & front ones to match. It also has green neon lights installed under the engine and rear tire.
Only thing it needs are some new tyres which I'm currently scouting around for.
It's my first bike too and I'm very happy with the choice.

hey thanks for replying. i bought the bike from the original owner and was happy to find a cared for used bike that was $2000. for some reason in panama city fl every one wants 4000 or more for their bike. The mods are, new tail and front signals not sure exactly what kind but they're defintly not stock other than that though its stock.

thanks again...
