Funny, I remember reading that it was the big tread blocks and deep grooves between...whatever it is I feel it squirm and I dont like it.

Tire rolls from vertical to cornering very nicely but in straight line the bike feels unstable (ONLY compared to my old 150/60).

Guess the details of the squirming are not as important as the fact that the AV46 rears do squirm a bit.  Couldn't find that original Bike mag reference, but found reference to it in another Brit mag.  It said it only happened below about 10 mph.  Do you feel it above 10 mph?

I'm still leaning toward the AV45/46 tires for my 02 since I want the combination of handling and tire life they give, but I'm also thinking I want to lower the rear back down to standard height and that would require a 150/60 rear to not give up on the radials.  So I appreciated your opinion that your straight line stability was better with the 150/60 Pilot Sport than with the AV46.  Thought it might be otherwise since the 150/60 tires are pinched in a bit on our 3.5" rims making for a rounder tire profile than would be on their desired 4" rims.

Could be the steeper steering angle caused by the larger AV46 rear accounts for the twitchiness more than the design of the tire.  When I put a BT010 on the front of my 97 with a AV36 rear, it really felt twitchy with the steeper steering angle and the more responsive sport tire on the front.  This twitchy feeling went away after a few hundred miles and is not noticeable now.  I do like the handling of that combo.
