Fuel Tank Capicity

I have a 1990 GS 500. The specs say that the fuel tank capacity is 20 litres but mine seems to be around 10 litres or a little more.

It's hard for me to tell exactly becuase I had to remove my fuel petcock system due to the fact that the rubber diaphram inside got clogged so I had to put in an inline lawn mower on/off switch as a temp repair. So I can't run my bike to reserve as I have no reserve. Prior to this my bike kept dieing after 5 mins of riding....

But when the tank seems near empty i fill up and always about 10 litres fills it up....

Either 10 litres is hiding somewhere in the bottom of my tank or my tank isn't a 20 litre tank...

Any ideas?

Also, i seem to be doing 300km for that 10 litres. Is that ok fuel consumption?

Prior to 2002 the fuel tank was 17 liters. After that it was increased to 20. Could be wrong about the year but your tank is 17 liters for sure.
