A friend of a friend made this monster. I'm hoping I can fit it to my GS somehow. Does anyone else have any experience with self-made mufflers?

Looks very very menacing... I am guessing it has no baffle in it... BUt prolly still not be too loud... just pleasantly loud. Graft it on nd let us know.

not a bad looking muffler...in europe, everyone makes their own mufflers...

you want to know how to put that muffler on your GS??

if so, just cut off your stock muffler off, cut it right before the weld

then get a pice of exhaust pipe and fit it over the gs exhaust pipe and the other end will attach to the muffler you have...

then just attach the muffler to the GS frame or passenger foot peg and that's it

Thanks for the replies and info. I'll definately inform you guys how it went. Now if I could just find the time to do it...

I've never built an EXHAUST, but I have built a few systems.
I've made 3 different systems for my GS.
The first prototype was an old reverse-megaphone highmount system.
I used auto exhaust pipes and had them bent and welded to mount the systme so the exhaust would exit right next to the tail light.
Worked okay but I couldn't quite get the jetting correct it was making the bike run REALLY lean.
So I then built that system into a "higher-than-stock" system.   I removed the passenger pegs and the can sits about 2-3 inches below the subframe rails.
Got the jetting down pat with that one.  I then built a system using a nice canister from a CBR600F4i - I HATED this set up.  The pipe was HUGE and looked REALLY weird... but the sound!!!!!!

Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

Yeah well, I decided to chicken out. :)

I won't install the muffler, too much hassle for a marginal gain in HP. But what about the K&N filter, does it have much effect after rejetting if I leave the stock muffler?

GRU

well none of the mods will give you major HP....each mod will get you around 1 or 2 HP max.....if i had to pick 1 out of 3 mods (exhaust, K&N and rejetting) i would do the exhaust because it looks alot better, sounds awsome and still gives you a little more performance
